Tonkatsu Miyoshiya

Tonkatsu Miyoshiya

Situated in the quiet streets extending from Kannoura toward Senzoku, north of Senso-ji Temple, Tonkatsu Miyoshiya is a historic dining spot founded in 1935. Having rebuilt following the Tokyo air raids, this family-run institution has preserved its neighborhood warmth across three generations.

Rooted in the pre-war "Miyoshiya" fraternity—celebrated for making hearty Western dining accessible to everyday locals—the kitchen gradually evolved into a specialty shop focused on artisan deep-fried fare. A popular order is the Premium Pork Loin Cutlet (Jo Rosu Tonkatsu): coated in golden breadcrumbs and fried to a crisp, the thick-cut pork offers a tender bite with rich, sweet marbling. Dipped into house-made sauce enriched with freshly ground sesame seeds, it pairs effortlessly with piping-hot rice.

Alongside it sits the long-standing combo platter "Aizara," served continuously since the restaurant's early days. It features a handmade hamburger steak, a crispy fried prawn, niku-fry (tender pork fillet tempura unique to the Miyoshiya lineage), potato salad, and sliced ham. Whether savoring a hearty cutlet set or lingering over cold beer with freshly fried bites like generations of local patrons, it remains a genuine culinary pillar of backstreet Asakusa.
