Located approximately a 3-minute walk from Tsukuba Express Asakusa Station, set back in the quiet residential neighborhood of Nishi-Asakusa 2-chome just west of Kokusai-dori Avenue, Stolovaya is a long-established Russian restaurant. Founded in 1978 by first-generation chef Shiro Akiyama—who trained at the legendary Asakusa Russian establishment Manos—and his wife, the restaurant began as a modest 8-tsubo (approx. 26 sq. meter) eatery. Today, the kitchen is led by second-generation chef Motomasa, who trained for 15 years in French cuisine, bringing refined techniques to classic Russian recipes.
One of the restaurant's quintessential specialties is the "Cabbage Roll," featuring quality Wagyu beef slow-simmered in tomato sauce for eight hours and rested overnight for deep flavor integration. Another staple is the freshly fried Piroshki, prepared by rolling out the yeast dough to order, with options ranging from classic savory "Plain" minced beef to an original "Curry Flavor" served with sour cream, and a Japanese-style "Gyu-shigureni" (simmered beef with ginger). Other highlights include the oven-baked "Pot-Pie Soup" sealed under a bread crust and "Pelmeni" (Russian dumplings) served piping hot in a flame-lit saucepan.
The interior, encompassing a ground-floor dining space and private second-floor rooms, offers a warm, welcoming environment. Living up to its name—which translates to "dining table" or "canteen" in Russian—Stolovaya provides an inviting space where guests can enjoy comfort-driven, authentic Russian cuisine adapted harmoniously to Japanese palates.
