Located a 5-minute walk from Tawaramachi Station on the Tokyo Metro Ginza Line and close to Tsukuba Express Asakusa Station, Ju-Hachiban is a classic "Machi-Chuka" (Japanese-style Chinese diner) founded in 1963 (Showa 38) in Nishi-Asakusa. Originally established as a branch of the pioneer "Ju-Hachiban" in Asakusa-Kotobuki-cho—which opened shortly after WWII and is now permanently closed—it now serves as the main restaurant of the "Ju-Hachiban" family across Tokyo's historic downtown area. The diner gained nationwide fame after receiving a 3-star rating on the iconic TV segment "Kitanachelin" (later known as "Kitanatran").
The standout specialty is the iconic "Nira Soba" (Chinese Chive Noodles), considered an original pioneer of the dish, featuring pork belly stir-fried in lard, a whole bundle of fresh chives, and fragrant sesame oil. Other customer favorites include the long-standing classic "Shiitake Soba" (Mushroom Noodles) and the highly popular "Sanratanmen" (Hot and Sour Noodle Soup) featuring fresh tomato, which gained widespread fame through TV coverage. The menu is further complemented by expertly crafted "Gyoza" dumplings and "Butameshi"—a fan-favorite rice bowl topped with marinated chashu pork and chili-oil-sautéed scallions originally created as a staff meal.
Steeped in traditional neighborhood atmosphere and authentic flavors, Ju-Hachiban offers a true taste of classic Tokyo culinary heritage.
