Opened in November 2021, Asakusa Hirayama is a hidden gem of a soba restaurant quietly nestled in an alley of Nishi-Asakusa, just a 2-minute walk from Tawaramachi Station on the Tokyo Metro Ginza Line. The owner-chef, Chika Hirayama, established this restaurant after honing his craft at the renowned "Hosokawa" in Ryogoku and expanding his Japanese culinary expertise at "Ginza Kojyu." Highly acclaimed for its exceptional quality, the restaurant has earned the "Bib Gourmand" status in the prestigious Michelin Guide. The restaurant, a renovated house, was designed by the same interior architect as his master's shop, creating a warm, modern Japanese atmosphere with beautifully crafted plaster walls and a manicured front garden.
The restaurant uses high-quality, domestically grown buckwheat ground fresh every morning with an in-house stone mill. The resulting pure Juwari (100% buckwheat) soba noodles are meticulously hand-rolled, offering a firm texture and an exceptionally smooth throat-feel.
Alongside the exceptional soba, what truly captivates food enthusiasts is the diverse selection of seasonal small plates reflecting his kappo dining experience, along with pristine tempura—such as white shrimp kakiage prepared with meticulous individual clipping or chewy Kaga lotus root. Guests can fully indulge in the traditional culture of "Sobamae," savoring exquisite seasonal dishes and carefully curated sake before concluding with a beautiful bowl of soba. With its remarkably attentive hospitality, it stands as a special destination cherished by both local regulars and international travelers.
