Tucked into a corner of Oku-Asakusa's Kannoura, north of Senso-ji Temple, Dayama Shokudo is a ramen shop born out of genuine passion. The owner, Mr. Yamada, was an office worker whose devotion to noodles led him to run a pop-up ramen stall along nearby Hisago-dori just once a week. Driven by that dedication, he left the corporate world behind to establish his own permanent brick-and-mortar eatery here in Kannoura.
The cornerstone offering is a classic soy sauce ramen featuring a deeply savory, aromatic shoyu broth matched with medium-thick curly noodles from Tokyo's celebrated noodle-maker Asakusa Kaikarou. Every topping, from the seasoned eggs to the succulent chashu, is crafted entirely by hand from scratch—featuring thick, juicy pork belly alongside savory pork loin for a hearty bite. To finish, soft whole garlic cloves crown the bowl; melting gently on the tongue, their mellow richness elevates the savory depth of the soy broth.
With a counter-centered room that showcases the owner’s friendly, approachable character, the shop carries an easygoing neighborhood charm. Loved by followers from his pop-up days as well as local residents, it is a heartwarming spot delivering an uncompromised bowl of craft ramen.
