Just a 1-minute walk from the North Exit of Asakusa Station on the Tobu Isesaki Line, Chinese Restaurant Botan is a long-established gem that has been cherished in the Hanakawado area since its founding in 1948. Today, the third-generation owner leads the kitchen, working alongside his son to preserve their traditional flavors across generations.
One of their signature dishes is the Omurice (omelet rice), a historic item added to the menu because the third-generation owner’s grandfather once worked at a Western-style restaurant. The chicken rice is stir-fried over high heat with lard to achieve a light, fluffy texture, then neatly wrapped in a thin, elegant layer of egg. The exquisite balance between the tanginess of the ketchup and the sweetness of the pork fat creates a truly satisfying flavor.
Their classic Gyoza (dumplings) are also immensely popular. With each bite, the refreshing aroma of ginger wafts through, followed by the savory richness of meat juices in a light, expertly crafted finish.
As you step through the deep-purple "Edo-murasaki" noren curtain, you are welcomed by a warm atmosphere unique to a family-run business. Come to Botan and experience the true essence of heartwarming "machi-chuka" (local Chinese dining) that has grown alongside the history of Asakusa.
