Tenpura Akimitsu Asakusa

Tenpura Akimitsu Asakusa

Opened in 2015, Tenpura Akimitsu is a specialty restaurant dedicated to tempura and tendon (tempura rice bowls), located near the entrance of "Asakusa Hisago-dori Shopping Street" when walking from "Hanayashiki-dori Street" in Asakusa 2-chome. The establishment was founded by Akimitsu Tanihara, who previously served as the fifth-generation head chef of "Dote no Iseya," a historic restaurant in Nihonzutami, Taito-ku established in 1889.

The signature dish, "Godaime Tendon" (Fifth Generation Tempura Rice Bowl), is generously piled with a rich selection of seafood, prominently featuring shrimp and a large conger eel that stretches beyond the edge of the bowl. While preserving downtown Tokyo's traditional flavors, the restaurant uses a secret sauce passed down from the first generation, carefully refined by each subsequent generation to match changing times. This flavor integrates with the aromatic sesame oil-fried batter, fully bringing out the authentic charm of Edomae-style seafood tendon. Acclaimed both domestically and internationally, the brand has expanded with multiple overseas branches and frequently draws long lines of eager diners.

The interior consists of counter and table seating on the first floor, and Japanese-style tatami seating on the second floor. Traditional Edomae-style tempura is served in rice bowls, set meals, or as a la carte orders during both lunch and dinner.
